Mourvèdre
Amador County
Mourvèdre is a famously quirky grape that, despite it's French name, is thought to have originated from Spain. In Spain it is called Mataro or Monastrell, but is more widely known by its French name. We decided to purchase Mourvèdre grapes from two vineyards and vinify them separately, then blend them together. We also added a splash of Syrah and Grenache to make a rich, complex Rhône style wine, but with bright fruit front and center. Earth and tobacco notes are complemented by moderate tannins to make this a great food friendly wine.

Tasting Notes
2024-11-03
We had the fall 2024 Conspiracy Club new wine releases all set until we opted to taste this Mourvèdre before sending out the announcement. We're so glad that we did! This wine has some really interesting characteristics, especially for being so young. Moderate tannins provide a backdrop to well balanced fruit and Earthiness. The added Syrah perks up the fruit a touch while the Grenache adds a bit of cherry notes to the aromatics. Even the freshly opened bottle was very approachable, but the wine's complexity really became present when allowed to breath for a few minutes in the glass.
